Bowling Green resident, Terry Ernest Thomas, 76,, appeared in court on Monday for his arraignment, facing charges of murder and receiving stolen property. The courts returned indictments against Thomas on these charges on February 28.
The police were first dispatched to the incident on Bluebell Way in January. The caller, Thomas’ daughter, had called 911, stating that she had received a disturbing call from her father. He admitted to shooting his wife, Mary Thomas, in the head, claiming it was in self-defense.
Terry Thomas told the Warren County deputies that he had to take drastic action as his wife tried to stab him during an escalating argument. Further adding complexity to the case, he also claimed that his wife had managed to take his gun from him during the altercation, subsequently shooting herself in the head.
However, as the investigation proceeded, detectives found enough inconsistencies in his story and evidence pointing to homicide, leading to Terry Thomas’ arrest. He is currently being held in the Warren County Jail on a $1 million cash bond, dramatically increased from the initial $500,000 set on Feb. 28, according to court records.
Further details of the case and next court dates await disclosures. As of the recent development, Terry Thomas potentially faces severe charges of murder and receiving stolen property if convicted. Meanwhile, the local community continues to reel from the shock of the brutal act.
The Warren County police department has urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward. Each piece of evidence could be crucial in ensuring justice for the victim. Community members are advised to support law enforcement’s efforts in this challenging investigation.
