I-65 Southbound Lanes Reopen after Afternoon Fire
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Major Interstate Reopened after Afternoon Blaze
In an alarming incident in Bowling Green, Kentucky, three southbound lanes of the I-65 in Warren County have been reopened following a major afternoon vehicle fire. The incident resulted in heavy traffic on the southbound lanes of I-65 near mile marker 15.
Details of the Incident
The Kentucky State Police confirmed a semi-truck was engulfed in flames on the interstate, hindering road access and causing a significant traffic jam. Remarkably, the cargo of the semi-truck was filled with wooden office furniture, which exacerbated the fire and prolonged the time it took to completely extinguish it.
The Alvaton Fire Department released a statement explaining that multiple emergency services had been dispatched to deal with the incident. A water supply operation was established at the 240 bridge to help in dousing the fire.
Impact on Traffic
A camera placed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at mile marker 17.8 captured the crowded state of the southbound lanes. Significantly, the area that was most affected spans past the I-165 interchange, all the way towards Simpson County. The mishap necessitated the closure of all three lanes of the interstate at approximately 2:20 p.m.
Besides the Alvaton emergency response team, other units that were on the scene included Plano, Woodburn, and Browning Fire Departments, the Kentucky State Police, and Marion County EMS. Their combined efforts helped to manage the incident swiftly and assuredly.
