Houchens Food Group Provides Food Donation to SKYCTC Food Pantry

Bowling Green, Ky

Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) recently received a substantial food donation for their Pathfinder Food Pantry, thanks to a generous contribution from Houchens Food Group.

The Unexpected Partnership

The regional manager of Houchens Food Group, Jimmy Stewart, asserted that the collaboration with the college started unexpectedly during a search for training opportunities. The interaction with Dr. Kim Myers, Dean of Workforce Solutions for SKYCTC, unveiled numerous exciting programs that piqued the interest of the food group. As a result, they established a fruitful partnership oriented towards community welfare.

Pathfinder Food Pantry

The Pathfinder Food Pantry is an on-campus initiative, branching across all six college campuses, committed to providing free meals to food-insecure students. Apart from catered meals, the pantry also stores groceries which the students can take home for further sustenance. The first food donation from Houchens consisted of canned goods, donated as per the preference of the college.

Embracing the Culture of Caring

Dr. Myers, in expressing her gratitude

for the donation, emphasized the impact this gesture has on the college community. She highlighted that such contributions are vital in ensuring that no student has to face the additional stress of food insecurity while pursuing their education. This donation not only addresses immediate needs but also strengthens the fabric of support and care that SKYCTC aims to provide for its students.

The collaboration between Houchens Food Group and SKYCTC extends beyond a mere donation; it signifies a shared commitment to nurturing a culture of caring within the community. By recognizing the challenges faced by students and acting to alleviate them, Houchens Food Group has set a commendable example for corporate responsibility and community engagement.

Future Collaborations

The success of this partnership opens the door for future collaborations between Houchens Food Group and SKYCTC, potentially expanding beyond food donations to include internships, job placements, and other educational opportunities for students. This initial act of generosity lays the groundwork for a lasting relationship that promises to benefit both the college and the broader community.

In sum, the generous donation from Houchens Food Group to the Pathfinder Food Pantry at SKYCTC is a powerful reminder of the impact collaborative efforts can have on addressing community needs. It stands as a testament to the belief that education should be accessible to all, free from the barriers of basic needs like food.
