Backing Historic Small Restaurants Grant Program

The restaurants are seeking nominations for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Backing Historic Small Restaurants Grant Program, a yearly event that provides generous grants to iconic local eateries that tell an inspiring story about local cuisine and community.

Now in its fourth year, the grant program is planning to award a total of $2.5 million in grants to 50 historic and culturally significant restaurants across the United States, offering them the opportunity to upgrade and preserve their exterior physical spaces and online businesses.

Nominations Needed from the Community

The nomination process is open to the public, and members of the community are encouraged to nominate restaurants that they see as key contributors to local food culture and history. The deadline for nominations is set for Wednesday, March 27, a date fast approaching.

To nominate your favorite historic restaurant for a chance at one of these generous grants, simply visit www.savingplaces.org. When posting on social media about your nomination, the community is encouraged to use the hashtags #SavingPlaces #SupportLocalEateries #HistoricGrantProgram to help spread awareness.

Importance of Supporting Local Businesses

The past couple of years have been hard on many local businesses, particularly in the restaurant sector, which has seen a severe reduction in in-person dining due to the global pandemic. As such, community support during this time is crucial.

Each of the three Bowling Green spots is steeped in local history and is a beloved part of the community. They offer not only delicious food and drink but also a connection to Bowling Green’s culinary past and present and play a significant role in the local economy.

These grants will help secure the future of these iconic places, allow them to continue serving the community and visitors, and help ensure the conservation of local history for future generations. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together and show support for the preservation of its cherished historic restaurants.

Join in the Effort

Don’t miss this chance to support your favorite historic Bowling Green restaurants in their bid for the National Trust for Historic Preservation Grant. With your nominations, they will have the chance to not just survive but to thrive, while also ensuring the preservation and continuation of local history and culture.
