Bowling Green, Kentucky is gearing up for its annual Halloween bike ride. BikeWalk BG has announced that the exciting event will take place next week, inviting locals to join in the fun. Participants are encouraged to gather at the Mellow Mushroom parking lot at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday evening. The ride is set to kick off shortly after, at 6 p.m.
This thrilling ride is expected to last about an hour and a half, covering a distance of 10 miles. Cyclists will travel together as a group along various scenic paths, including greenways, cemeteries, and the popular Pumpkin Alley. As the Halloween spirit fills the air, riders are encouraged to dress up in costumes that accommodate biking.
Natasha Smith, the coordinator for BikeWalk BG, shared her enthusiasm for the event. She stated, “I love to dress up. I love Halloween, and I think riding in a group is always fun.” In addition to the excitement of costumes and group riding, the first 50 participants will be rewarded with a free glow-in-the-dark Halloween bike ride t-shirt.
Smith noted, “I’ve got about 35 of those claimed already, but if you go ahead and register, we’ll try to get one in your size, and it’s a really cool shirt this year.” The shirts are expected to be popular among participants, so early registration is encouraged.
While the Halloween bike ride is a festive occasion, it is also designed for more experienced teen and adult cyclists. Given that the ride will take place at night and on public roadways, safety is a top priority. Smith emphasized the importance of being visible to drivers, pedestrians, and fellow bikers.
To ensure safety, Smith advised participants to equip their bikes and themselves with proper lighting. She detailed, “We want you to be visible to drivers, pedestrians, and other bikers, which means that you should have some lights on your body.” A white headlamp and a red tail light are recommended, as well as any reflective gear that can enhance visibility.
After the bike ride wraps up, participants can enjoy a meal at Mellow Mushroom. Smith highlighted the food discount that Mellow Mushroom is offering for attendees. “The very cool thing is that Mellow is one of our sponsors,” said Smith, adding that participants will receive a coupon for a discount when they check in.
Although pre-registration is encouraged, it is not mandatory. Riders who wish to join the fun can find the online registration link through BikeWalk BG’s resources. To stay up to date with upcoming events and rides, interested individuals can also check out their social media pages, which feature additional information and updates.
This Halloween bike ride promises to be a fun, engaging, and safe event for the cycling community in Bowling Green.
