In a deeply moving display of solidarity, Guardians of The Children (GOC), a national non-profit organization, has come forward to raise awareness regarding the disturbing surge in child abuse cases. Known largely for its motorcycling community, the organization is rallying in April, a month particularly significant to them, as it is Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Vette City Chapter, a branch of GOC, has initiated their awareness campaign by putting out blue pinwheels, a gesture aimed to spark conversation around the looming issue of child abuse in Kentucky. Reports from Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) indicate that Kentucky ranks third in the nation for reported child abuse cases, with a daunting figure of 16,347 noted in 2023.
The Vice President of the Vette City Chapter, known affectionately by his road name, Doc, underscored the fact that the trauma resulting from child abuse often persists for years. These victims require continuous support and assistance, both of which the organization strives to provide.
Founded in 2006, GOC was borne out of the necessity to empower children against their abusers. The organization is composed of individuals, often donned in intimidating motorcycle gear, in order to symbolize strength and protection for the children they are advocating for- a staunch beacon of hope and resilience for the survivors of child abuse.
Those interested in learning more about the work of GOC, or considering to lend a hand in their noble cause, can reach out to them via their Facebook page, Guardians Of The Children – Vette City Chapter, or by contacting Doc and Sheldon at 270-991-0013 and 270-776-5147 respectively. Their devotion to child safety and their contribution to the prevention of child abuse are efforts worth applauding and supporting.
As Child Abuse Prevention Month continues, the commendable efforts of GOC in raising awareness and championing for child safety are poised to evoke a much-needed dialogue around child maltreatment. By providing a support system for victims and persistently advocating against such heinous deeds, they are not only protecting children but also proactively contributing to creating a safer, inclusive future.
It’s true that change doesn’t happen overnight. However, every step towards ensuring a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for all our children counts. Organisations such as GOC serve as a stark reminder of the work required towards achieving that goal. April may be Child Abuse Prevention Month, but the need for vigilance and action continues year-round. Remember, every child matters, every day.
