This diverse new class showcases exceptional talent from 47 different counties throughout Kentucky. Among these standout students are Kohen Coffey from Barren County High School and Allie Poynter from Caverna High School, both of whom are already making waves with their impressive accomplishments.

The breadth of representation is particularly noteworthy this year. The Class of 2027 includes the first student from Leslie County and recognizes among the initial five students from Caldwell, Casey, Garrard, and Green counties. This impressive array reinforces the fact that talent knows no boundaries, and students from every corner of the state are seizing opportunities to thrive.

A Rigorous Selection Process

Entering the Gatton Academy isn’t just a walk in the park; it requires dedication and hard work! Applicants were put through a thorough selection process where they were evaluated based on their ACT/SAT scores, high school grades, accomplishments, extracurricular activities, essays, recommendation forms, and interviews. This comprehensive review ensures that only the most promising young minds become part of this elite program.

What’s Next for the Class of 2027?

Once selected, these talented students will complete their junior and senior years living in Florence Schneider Hall at Western Kentucky University. This unique setup allows them to immerse themselves in a college-like environment while still being in their high school journey. By the end of this enriching two-year program, students are expected to graduate with an astounding 60 college credit hours and an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.

A Statewide Legacy of Achievement

The Gatton Academy has been making waves since its inception, boasting students from 118 out of the 120 counties in Kentucky! These figures speak volumes about the academy’s commitment to academic excellence and community outreach.
