A Ray of Hope for Families Struggling for a Daily Meal

Ever wonder the feeling of having an empty belly with no immediate food source? It’s a grim reality for many residents in Franklin, a small peace-loving town in Kentucky. A considerable number of folks find it a real battle trying to keep their pantry stocked during these tough economical times.

An admirable non-profit Live the Proof has made it their mission to put an end to this local food shortage menace. Operating out of 260 W. Kentucky Ave in Franklin, this organization provides a free grocery service every Tuesday for folks who need it the most.

“Me and my husband, we work full-time and we still need it,” admits one of the locals, Laurtina Clemson. Laurtina is a mother of three who started depending on this service from March. With Live the Proof’s help, Laurtina and her family are now able to enjoy hearty meals without worrying about how to put food on the table. “It’s really nice being able to know that once a week we know we are going to have food,” she gladly shared.

Live the Proof wasn’t born in a day. Tammie McCory, the light behind the service, started this cause back in 2020 initially by doling out sandwiches in a church parking lot. Having experienced homelessness and hunger himself, he had a heart for helping those going through the same trials.

For McCory, the key is to feed the folks first, make their bellies happy, then sit down to talk and figure out what else they might be in need of. This approach has certainly been promising.

Take the case of Cheyanne Straw. After moving to Franklin from Arizona and being homeless, having access to Live the Proof’s free grocery service has made a huge difference in her life. “Back where I come from we don’t have this. We don’t have a community like this that will help you with food or anything that you need,” she shared.

But Live the Proof is not a one-man show. It requires a troop of 10-15 hardworking volunteers to make the weekly food pantry a success. Hats off to heroes like Eddie Boyd, one of the dedicated volunteers, who wakes up at 4 a.m each Tuesday to gather food donations from places like grocery stores, dollar stores, and Amish communities

.

Furthermore, it’s people like Eddie, who faced hard times and received help from kind souls, that are inspired to join this mission to give back to the community they live in.

Live the Proof’s food pantry operates every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. To learn more about how to donate or join this force as a volunteer, click here.

So, remember, in these tough times, help is closer than you think. Together, we can combat this food scarcity issue, one grocery box at a time. Because hunger doesn’t have to be an option.
