Exciting Times for FIU Women’s Basketball in Conference USA!

Located in the vibrant city of Miami, Florida, the FIU women’s basketball team has been making waves in the 2025 Conference USA (CUSA) awards, and there’s a lot to talk about! This season has been nothing short of remarkable, especially for their standout player, Isnelle Natabou, who has truly shone on the court.

A Newcomer with a Bang!

Isnelle Natabou grabbed the spotlight by being awarded the prestigious CUSA Newcomer of the Year title. Transferring as a senior to play her final collegiate season with the Panthers, Natabou didn’t hold back! She lit the scoreboard on fire, averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game, ranking her fourth in the entire conference. Talk about making your mark!

Impressive Stats and Achievements

But the news doesn’t stop there; Natabou also earned a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team. Throughout the season, she was not just a scorer but also a strong presence on the boards, grabbing an average of 7.7 rebounds per game, which put her sixth in the conference standings. Her field goal percentage? Absolutely jaw-dropping. Natabou finished the season with a national ranking of second at 61.9% for her field goal percentage and an extraordinary 66.5% within CUSA play, the highest in the conference!

Big Moments!

Among her many highlights, Natabou scored a phenomenal 26 points against Louisiana Tech, showcasing her talent perfectly. Furthermore, she hit the scoreboard with 20 or more points in eight games during the season and had double figures in scoring 16 times over 18 conference contests. Isnelle didn’t just contribute points; she also had five double-doubles against CUSA opponents, proving to be a powerhouse every time she stepped on the court.

Other Tantalizing Performances

Joining Natabou in recognition is Parris Atkins, a junior who made quite the entrance in her first season with FIU. She was named to the All-Conference USA Second Team after averaging 13.7 points per game, landing her at eighth place in the conference. Atkins also notched a career-high of 23 points against Western Kentucky and demonstrated her defensive skills with an average of 2.4 steals per game, ranking third in CUSA.

With ten games featuring three or more steals, including three games with five picks, Atkins has proven to be a formidable opponent on the defensive end. Additionally, she averaged 4.9 rebounds per game, making her the fourth-leading rebounder for the Panthers.

A Rising Star!

Meanwhile, the future of FIU basketball shines bright with Fantasia James, a redshirt freshman, who made the CUSA All-Freshman Team. Averaging 6.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game during conference play, she has shown potential that’s hard to ignore. James set personal bests with 16 points against Jacksonville State and 18 points against UTEP, making her mark early in her career.

Coupled with her knack for blocking, ranking seventh in the conference with an average of 0.8 blocks per game, she recorded a standout performance of three blocks against Jacksonville State. Not to mention, James was awarded the CUSA Freshman of the Week on February 16!

Looking Ahead

As the season wraps up, the FIU Panthers are gearing up for the CUSA tournament as the sixth seed. They are set to face the formidable three-seed, Western Kentucky, on March 13 at 3 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to follow the team’s journey through social media for updates on women’s basketball and all the athletic news!
