Bowling Green, Kentucky – This week, friends and family of Robert M. “Bob” Rudzinski gathered to honor a man whose life was rich in love, passion, and community spirit. Bob peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on November 11, 2024, just shy of his 82nd birthday, after a brief illness.
Born on January 17, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bob’s journey began in a city known for its vibrant history and community. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University and embarked on a career that would span decades. His work with General Electric began in 1965, leading him to various management positions in places like Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Scottsville, Kentucky. His colleagues remember him for his unwavering commitment to workplace improvement and team engagement.
After his retirement in 2008 from A.O. Smith, Bob left a legacy of innovation and leadership, earning recognition as a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the GE Employee’s Club.
Bob had a special passion—trains. He was an avid member of the Train Collector’s Association, often taking part in rail excursions that crisscrossed the country. His love for trains was matched only by his dedication to the Historic Rail Park & Train Museum in Bowling Green, where he served as a devoted supporter. Train enthusiasts everywhere can thank Bob for helping preserve this remarkable slice of history.
Above all, Bob cherished his family. He shared a beautiful life with his loving wife of 58 years, Dolores (Beaver). The couple loved to travel together, creating precious memories that their kids and grandkids will treasure for years to come. Bob is survived by his children: Randall Rudzinski from Columbus, Indiana; Captain Lisa Rudzinski (retired) from Salvisa, Kentucky; Russell Rudzinski and his wife Yume from Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Leigh Ann Haman along with her husband Lt. Col. Dan Haman (USAF, retired) from Andover, Kansas.
He was also a proud grandfather to his cherished grandchildren: Kevin, Jacob, Rachel, Quin, Kane, Lana, and Caleb, Dylan, and Aaron. His family, including many beloved nieces and nephews, will miss him dearly.
A devoted member of the community, Bob was a faithful parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1315. His contributions to the council were plentiful, including his work in BINGO committees, the Tootsie Roll drive, and various other events that brought the community closer together.
In recognition of his character and contributions, Bob was honored as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Paul Patton, a title that reflects his dedication to service and community.
Bob’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. There will be a visitation on Friday, November 15, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with a Rosary service taking place at 7:00pm.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church RENEW Fund, The Historic Railpark & Train Museum, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or Hospice of Southern Kentucky. As Bob’s family reflects on a life so well-lived, they invite everyone who knew him to hold his memory close to their hearts.
Bob Rudzinski will be missed, but his legacy of warmth, love, and community spirit will undoubtedly continue to inspire those he touched.
