In the heart of Bowling Green, memories of a beloved daughter, friend, and advocate for children are being celebrated and remembered. Lauren Gerkins Marr, a proud alumna of Western Kentucky University, will be commemorated through a benefit being held by her family. Their aim is to raise funds for a scholarship established in her memory, set to aid deserving Kentucky residents seeking their masters in social work.
Lauren Marr was a dedicated mother and a devoted member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority during her studies at Western Kentucky University. Graduating with both an undergraduate and master’s degree in social work, Marr was not just a student but an active participant in the student community. She held the position of chapter president for her sorority and her passion for her alma mater was evident in her involvement.
Beyond being a well-respected student, Marr was an advocate for children, working with the Kentucky Child Protective Services for seven years. Her contribution to her community was immeasurable and her devotion to helping children and their families shone through in her work. In testament to her commitment, Marr’s parents have established the Lauren Gerkins Marr Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The family is hosting a benefit to generate funds for the Lauren Gerkins Marr Memorial Scholarship. Bowling Green Hot Rods tickets can be purchased for a baseball game happening on Saturday, June 15th. The proceeds from the ticket purchases will go directly to the scholarship fund managed by the WKU College Heights Foundation.
The funds raised through this benefit will provide crucial financial support for deserving Kentucky residents who wish to pursue a master’s degree in social work at WKU, particularly those who reside or serve in the Two Rivers Region.
The scholarship is a fitting tribute to Marr’s commitment to public service and the broad impact she made throughout her lifetime, from her role as a loving mother to her valued work with the Kentucky Child Protective Services. Through the generosity of these scholarships, her affection for her alma mater and her passion for social work will continue to inspire future generations.
The benefit is not just an opportunity to raise funds, it is also a chance to come together and remember the life of Lauren Marr. Her work, dedication, and spirit live on through the scholarship bearing her name and the students it will support, adding to her legacy of helping children and families.
In their grief, her family and friends find solace in keeping her memory alive and contributing positively to the lives of others, just as Marr did in her lifetime. They encourage the community to join them at the benefit and to support the scholarship fund, continuing the ripple effect of Marr’s passion and humanitarian spirit.
