BOWLING GREEN, Ky – A series of events planned to acknowledge and celebrate the influence of native son Duncan Hines are set to animate downtown Bowling Green from June 7th. The events will not only pay homage to Duncan Hines’ iconic cake mix, but will also highlight his broader impact on Southern culture.
The Duncan Hines Downtown Kick Off will commence with a vintage car cruise at 4:00 p.m. at the downtown fountain square. Auto enthusiasts and casual observers alike can look forward to a parade of vintage autos that are sure to impress. Along with the visual spectacle of the cruise, sidewalk sales and free family-friendly activities are planned to make for an engaging time for attendees of all ages.
After the vintage car cruise, the Uncle Duncan’s Summer Stroll Parade is slated to start at 5:00 p.m. in Circus Square Park. The parade will cover a route beginning at 601 College St., in front of SKYPAC, proceeding to Fountain Square, moving on to State St. while concluding at SOKY Marketplace. Participation is open to all, promising a lively and inclusive event.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., two simultaneous events will bring the day’s proceedings to a grand close. The Party on the Plaza at Bowling Green Hot Rods Ballpark and the Community Ice Cream Social in SOKY’s Marketplace will offer joyful diversions for all attendees.
The Party on the Plaza will feature drinks, yard games and the hitherto mentioned cakewalk until 8:00 p.m. The Community Ice Cream Social, on the other hand, will present guests with complimentary ice cream and live music featuring Natasha Nelly embodying the musical spirit of Dolly Parton.
