A Great Start with the Downtown Duck Drop

Downtown Duck Drop held on November 25, 2024. This fun-filled event was the first public fundraiser for the City of Bowling Green’s A Better BGKY Nonprofit. Picture this: three hundred rubber ducks soared through the air, hilariously dropped from a Bowling Green Public Works bucket truck! This unique spectacle took place at The Fringe food truck park, breathlessly captivating the crowd.

What’s even better? Proceeds from the sale of those adorable rubber quackers are set aside to support the highly-anticipated Duncan Hines Days celebration. As the event unfolded, Telia Butler, the downtown development coordinator, got in on the action by measuring the winner of the thrilling Downtown Duck Drop.

The gathering also featured city officials and enthusiastic members of the community, all coming together to support a great cause while having fun, showcasing the true spirit of Bowling Green.

June 7th: The Day of Festivities

Fast forward to June 7th, and mark this date as it launches a week-long celebration honoring Duncan Hines’ cake mix and his profound influence on southern culture. The festivities kick off with a Vintage Car Cruise right at 4:00 p.m. at the downtown fountain square. Imagine the striking sight of classic cars parading through the streets, inviting nostalgia and excitement!

But that’s just the start! As the day unfolds, there will be sidewalk sales and an array of free, family-friendly activities that are bound to keep everyone entertained. As the sun begins to set, get ready for the Uncle Duncan’s Summer Stroll Parade commencing at 5:00 p.m.! The parade will kick off from SKYPAC and meander through the city, passing by Fountain Square, State St., and ending at Circus Square and SOKY Marketplace.

Evening Fun: Ice Cream and Parties

As the clock strikes 6:00 p.m., two exciting events will start simultaneously. First up is the Party on the Plaza at Bowling Green Hotrods Ballpark, where guests can unwind with drinks, engage in yard games, and even participate in a fun cakewalk that will continue until 8:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Community Ice Cream Social in SOKY’s Marketplace promises to be delightful, featuring complimentary ice cream, live entertainment, and a special performance by Natasha Nelly channeling the legendary Dolly Parton!
