Parking Spot Leasing Program Launches in Downtown Bowling Green

Parking Spot Leasing Program Launches in Downtown Bowling Green

The city of Bowling Green, Kentucky, has launched a new parking spot leasing initiative aimed at improving the overall parking experience for downtown business owners and their staff. Initiated in prime Fountain Square area, the leasing program offers two city-owned public parking lots for leasing during business hours. On evenings and weekends, these areas revert back to free public parking.

Parking Spot Leasing for Businesses

Parking spots will be available for lease from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Businesses interested to avail spots for their staff can access an application for the parking lots located along State Street and East 10th Avenue. Once leased, each parking spot will be designated with a sign indicating it’s reserved for exclusive use.

The city has set forth a leasing rate of $35 per month providing a cost-effective solution to the chronic parking issues faced by downtown business owners. A post made by Downtown BGKY highlighted the rules, stating, “Please do not park in the spots with these reserved signs during the labeled hours – save them for Downtown business staff.”

Towing Not Enforced

It’s important to mention that businesses leasing these spots cannot arrange for vehicles to be towed away, nor will the city enforce towing. This restriction comes with the backdrop of concerns and discussions about the issue of towing in the area over the past few months. The decision aims at providing a fair and amicable solution to parking challenges without creating distress for other downtown visitors.

Location Details

The two parking lots offered for lease include the Paxton Lot and the State Street Lot. The Paxton Lot, located at the junction of Center Street and East 10th Avenue, provides 57 parking spaces, with two stations designed for accessibility. The State Street Lot, located behind Bluegrass Ingredients at 801 State St, provides 66 parking spaces, including two accessible spaces.
