Daviess County Traffic Alert: Upcoming Lane Restrictions and Road Work!

Attention, Daviess County residents! If you’re planning to hit the roads in the next few weeks, there are some important updates regarding lane restrictions that you’ll want to know about. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has announced multiple projects aimed at improving our highways, but they might impact your daily commute.

Tree Removal on Interstate 165

Starting on February 13, 2025, drivers on Interstate 165 will experience lane restrictions as crews tackle some much-needed tree and brush removal. If you’re traveling between the 69 and 70 mile markers, keep your eyes peeled for the work zone. The right lane will be restricted from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on both days, so plan accordingly! Remember to take it slow and stay safe – these workers are doing an essential job on our highways.

Attention U.S. 431 Commuters

January 7, 2025, residents using U.S. 431, also known as Frederica Street in Daviess County, should be alert for flaggers doing their best to guide traffic near the 8.5-mile point, just west of Owensboro. This restriction is part of a preparation for an upcoming KYTC project, so expect a bit of extra attention on this busy road.

KY 54 Project Starts Soon!

KY 54. From the night of July 14, 2024, lane shifts and closures are set to begin on KY 54 from Heartland Crossing Blvd to Bold Forbes Way. This project will lead to a significant upgrade, as the road is being widened from four lanes to six! The middle turning lane is also going to be closed while crews work on repainting the street lines and getting things set up.

The nightly work will continue from July 14 to July 17, so if you usually take KY 54 during those hours, make sure you plan ahead and factor in that extra time for your commute. Safety is key, so pay attention to any messages from traffic control and watch out for changes in the road layout.

Governor’s Vision for Daviess County

smoother, safer access to Owensboro and Daviess County. With estimates showing that over 32,000 vehicles use KY 54 to reach various businesses, improvements are expected to attract new companies and jobs to the area. It sounds like exciting times are ahead for local businesses and the community!

A Look Ahead

July 22, 2024, and after that, crews will switch focus to the westbound side, continuing with lane shifts. Residents can expect a new concrete median to be built along with the application of asphalt on the widened roadway. The entire drying process for this construction project is projected to wrap up by late 2026.

As always, drivers are encouraged to keep an eye on traffic signs and updates regarding work zones and new traffic flow changes. Daviess County might be seeing some roadwork, but these improvements should lead to better journeys for all. Stay safe out there!
