Exciting Collaboration in Bowling Green: Hope Harbor and WKU Team Up for Creative Writing Event!

Hey there, Bowling Green! As April rolls in, it brings awareness to a very important cause: Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year, we’ve got some great news as Hope Harbor and Western Kentucky University’s Gender & Women’s Studies program are joining forces for a special event that you won’t want to miss!

Express Your Truths Through Writing

On April 15th, starting at 4:30 p.m., people of all backgrounds are invited to come together at the charming Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre located right on campus. This event aims not only to raise awareness about sexual assault but to give individuals a safe and nurturing space to express their thoughts and feelings through creative writing. Whether you’re into poetry or enjoy spinning short stories, there’s room for everyone to share their unique voice.

Why Creative Writing?

You might be wondering why creative writing has become a central focus of this event. Well, participating in such a creative outlet can truly be therapeutic. Evidence shows that writing about one’s experiences can help in processing feelings, healing emotional wounds, and finding clarity. Those who have participated in creative writing classes often find a helpful outlet in articulating their feelings, making it a perfect fit for addressing serious topics like sexual assault.

Who Can Participate?

The event is open to anyone who may want to share their story or simply listen and support others in the community. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned writer or someone who has never picked up a pen for anything other than signing your name. The most important thing is that if you wish to share your experience or emotional journey, you’ve got a warm and welcoming space to do so.

How to Get Involved

If this sounds like an inspiring opportunity for you, all you need to do is reach out! Interested individuals can contact Professor Jessica Folk for more details. Whether you’re keen to share your writing or need more information, drop an email to jessica.folk@wku.edu to get the conversation started.

Join the Movement!

This creative writing event isn’t just about poetry or stories; it’s about creating a sense of community and understanding. By sharing stories, folks can connect on personal levels, raising awareness and promoting healing among individuals who may have had similar experiences. Bowling Green is known for its supportive and friendly atmosphere, and this event promises to enhance those community ties even further.

So, as we embrace April and its message of awareness, why not mark your calendar for April 15th? Come join the conversation, share your voice, and help foster a community that values healing, understanding, and resilience. No experience necessary—just bring your spirit and willingness to connect!

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity! Whether you want to write or just cheer on those who do, it’s a chance to stand in solidarity and make a difference. See you at the Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre on April 15th. Together, we can embrace our stories and empower one another in the process!
