Mark your calendars for March 17, 2025! The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation department is kicking off its very first Community Engagement Meeting. This event is scheduled to run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center. Everyone is invited to attend!
The purpose of this meeting is to gather community input regarding the use of BGPR parks, facilities, and programs over the next ten years. It’s a golden opportunity for residents to share their thoughts and ideas about how to enhance park usability and enjoyment, thus ensuring that Bowling Green remains a vibrant place for outdoor activities!
Celebrating Community Spirit
During the ceremony, various organizations, businesses, and individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the local community over the past year. Noteworthy efforts highlighted included several beloved initiatives such as Read Across America Day, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Feed the Need, and Operation Ready Child. This event really shone a spotlight on the heart of Bowling Green!
Awards and Recognition
A particularly highlighted moment was the presentation of the generous $500,000 Milestone Award to Logan Aluminum, which recognized their significant fundraising achievements. They were the very first organization to reach this landmark milestone!
Additionally, several Community Impact Partnership Awards were distributed to organizations dedicated to early childhood education. Notably, the Barren County School District received the Kindergarten Readiness Award after a remarkable 32% increase in readiness scores.
Furthermore, the Renshaw Early Childhood Center at Western Kentucky University was applauded for their exceptional dedication to children, particularly those who are bilingual or disabled. They are making waves in the community!
The Spirit United Award, recognizing year-round organizational involvement, was awarded to Warren County Public Schools. Meanwhile, the passionate advocacy work of Laura Sisco earned her the Shooting Star Award for her contributions as a foster mother.

As if that weren’t enough, the day also included insights for the Leadership Bowling Green Class of 2025, featuring engaging discussions, hands-on tours, and truly inspiring speakers. Workforce leaders shared strategies on how organizations can team up with educational institutions to build a brighter future.
Participants were immersed in the local educational environment with a visit to Natcher Elementary School, where students showcased their leadership skills. The class also explored facilities at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC).
Grants for Community Projects
For local literacy efforts, 1Book BG was granted $5,000 to provide books for kindergarten to fifth-grade students in Bowling Green elementary schools. This investment in education demonstrates the commitment of the community to foster a love of reading among its youth.
Other projects that were also funded through these grants included murals to beautify the community, AEDs for safety, mental health resources, and various educational initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Bowling Green.
