A Sporting Event That Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day

Bowling Green – March 16 is a day to circle on your calendars, as the community prepares to shoot some hoops for a worthy cause. Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky (DSSKY) has announced the much-anticipated third annual Hardwood Heroes Classic. This charity event is set to take place in Cumberland Trace Elementary school right here in Bowling Green.

Striving to cultivate community spirit, the event involves both the local community and The Buddy House players, a team made up of brilliantly exuberant individuals with Down Syndrome. The Hardwood Heroes Classic is a string of inclusive and friendly basketball games, all in the spirit of World Down Syndrome Day. The global awareness day, which happens on March 21, is strengthened by such community-centered initiatives.

Events Within the Event

The day promises rapturous entertainment beginning with a meticulously choreographed performance by the Rockerz Dance Team. The artistry and energy they bring to the court are bound to set the precedent for the day. Then it’s game time. Post an hour of fierce basketball games, attendees will be treated to the comedic stylings of the halftime mascot shootout.

Doors open at 10 AM with an inviting absence of entrance fees, encouraging everyone to participate in this celebration of diversity and strong community ties. 11 AM is when the first battle for the hoop begins.

Charity with a Sporting Twist

It’s not simply about rallying behind our local team, but supporting a greater cause. Whether you’re a passionate basketball player, an eager fan, or someone who just wants to engage with the community, there’s a spot for you in the bleachers.

The DSSKY is confident that the third annual Hardwood Heroes Classic will not only serve as a networking event but also generate awareness about Down Syndrome and its impacts on individuals and families. This festive and inclusive event is just one of their many initiatives to include people of all abilities in socially enriching platforms.
