Local Artist Engages Community in a Unique Art Installation at Duncan Hines Days Music Fest

Bowling Green, KY. – The annual Duncan Hines Days Music Fest became the backdrop for a unique community art project this year. Local artist Alexis Erskine debuted her “Elements of Home Community Mural Project,” displayed at Circus Square Park for attendees of the Eats & Beats Music Fest.

The Concept Behind the Project

In a conversation about her inspiration, Erskine mentioned, “This project came from a place of love for Bowling Green, the earth, the sky, and our connections that bind us“. The installation consisted of four panels, each illustrating a different element related to Bowling Green. The objective was to create artwork reminiscent of coloring book pages, inviting the community to engage and participate.

A Community Art Experience

Erskine hopes the project enhances social interaction and unity within the Bowling Green community. “With the increasing automation, small social engagements are getting fewer; these intentional and communal artistic moments are pivotal in preserving our social fabric,” she stated. Erskine’s project was designed to be interactive, prompting residents and festival attendees to collaborate and express their creativity.

Life Beyond the Festival

The mural does not end with the close of Duncan Hines Days. Erskine has plans to find locations within the community to display the finished work, aiming to keep the spirit of the project and the festival alive throughout the year.
