Founders of City Light Church Share Their Inspiring Journey

In the heart of Bowling Green, Kentucky, the anticipation builds as City Light Church prepares to welcome their community on “Launch Sunday”, this coming September 8. The church founders, Brennan and Cori Washington, share their uplifting story of faith, perseverance, and the quest to create a spiritual sanctuary that shines bright amidst life’s challenges.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, the Washington couple packed up and moved to Bowling Green in October 2023. Their aim was simple: to start a ministry that enriched the community they have come to love. Today, that once distant dream is finally turning into reality.

“We felt like God was leading us to start a new church,” said Brennan. He shares, “As we prayed about City Light, this phrase kept popping up in our minds – God’s light has a way to dispel any hurt, any darkness that lingers in people’s lives. We want to be a lighthouse, a place, where people, no matter their background, can feel and harness the love of God.” Cori smiles in agreement, adding, “And so, we fell head over heels for Bowling Green.”

Their vision for City Light Church is to cultivate an invigorating, “life-giving” space — a church that people genuinely want to be a part of. According to the Washingtons, “life-giving” is all about creating an environment that fosters personal growth, nurtures the spirit, and forges strong community bonds. The couple has dedicated their lives to the church, and they hope to inspire others with their way of life and faith in God.

Life hasn’t always been a smooth journey for the couple, who were faced with infertility. Despite this, their faith never wavered. “We knew we were meant to foster and adopt,” shares Cori, her eyes twinkling at the memory. “God just opened up doors for us, and we were blessed with our three incredible boys, now aged 5, 7, and 9.”

Demonstrating their unwavering faith and tenacity, just three months after adopting their boys, the Washingtons were delighted to welcome a new baby boy into their family. Overjoyed, Cori admitted, “God has expanded our family in ways we never imagined possible, and it’s been so much better than we could have ever dreamt.”

If you’re searching for a life-enriching experience, City Light Church is inviting everyone out there to their celebratory “Launch Sunday.” The doors of their church will open at the Knicely Convention Center, with two services, one at 9 a.m. and the other at 10:45 a.m. Witness firsthand the dawn of this wonderful journey into faith and community.

Big-hearted, devout, and persistent, the Washingtons are an inspiration, enkindling the flame of faith against all odds. Their story serves as a beacon of hope, proving that with faith and passion, dreams can indeed come true.
