In a troubling incident on Saturday afternoon, a child was injured by a gunshot while her grandfather was handling a firearm at a home in Bowling Green. The police received a call at around 4 p.m. to respond to a report of an assault at a residence located at 812 Roselawn Way.
Officers from the Bowling Green Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after the call was made. According to Officer Ronnie Ward, a man was sitting on a bed at the time of the incident, and it was suggested that he might have been cleaning his weapon. The man’s daughter and granddaughter were sitting next to him when the unexpectedly went off.
“The gun discharged, injuring the man in his hand and striking the child as well,” Officer Ward explained. The bullet reportedly entered and exited the granddaughter’s body, highlighting the serious nature of the incident.
Following the shooting, emergency services acted quickly to transport both the child and her grandfather to local hospitals for treatment. The child was taken to a facility in Nashville, where she was reported to be in stable condition as of Saturday evening.
