Classic Chevy Lovers Gather in Bowling Green for Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals
If you happened to be in Bowling Green these past three days, you must have noticed a swell in traffic and an increase in glossy, vintage Chevys cruising around. This not-so-ordinary sight was thanks to the ninth annual Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals, an event held at Beech Bend that draws classic Chevrolet enthusiasts from every corner of the globe.
Organized by a small team from the American Tri-Five Association and Woody’s Hot Rodz in Indiana, this annual event is the largest of its kind in the country that’s dedicated purely to the love of the Chevrolet. David Whelan, Sales Lead at Tri-Five, declared that over 3,000 specialized Tri-Five Chevys from ’55, ’56, ’57, made a stunning appearance at this year’s event.
But it’s not just the numbers that make this event extraordinary. “We have people from not only all over the country, but we have people from seven different countries and three different continents,” he said. This includes participants from as far afield as Norway, Japan, Australia, Germany, and Canada.
Whelan also revealed that the event attracted a whopping crowd of around 20,000 spectators on Saturday alone. Beyond the love for classic Chevys, it’s the special connection people have with these iconic cars that makes this event such a hit. “The reason this event is so special is because back in ‘55, ‘56, and ‘57, these cars were so iconic being the first V-8 production vehicle that Chevy ever made,” Whelan explained.
Apart from being an exhibition of these classic wheels, the Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals is also packed with thrilling activities such as competition drag racing, car and award shows, and giveaways. On the opening day of the event, the organizers even held a charity concert benefiting the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society.
The Tri-Five Association couldn’t be more grateful to the warm and welcoming Bowling Green community for embracing such a large number of visitors. After all, it’s the people who come year after year, contributing to the event’s growing success, who have made it what it is today.
And it seems like the enthusiasm for these classic Chevys and the Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals is not about to die down anytime soon. The organizers are already gearing up for the 2025 show. “The day we get here to set up, we’re already planning next year,” they enthusiastically shared.
