A Unique Opportunity for Rising Seventh Graders Across South-Central Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Rising seventh graders across south-central Kentucky have been given the unique opportunity to expand their minds, cultivate creativity, and foster lifelong friendships at Camp Discover. Hosted by the Center for Gifted Studies on the campus of Western Kentucky University, these weeklong programs aim to foster academic and personal growth, acting as a testament to the transformative power of experiential learning.

A Diverse Array of Learning Experience

With a diverse selection of classes that range from broadcasting and music creation to yoga, there is something to ignite everyone’s curiosity at Camp Discover. Learners are encouraged to stretch their intellectual and creative capacities in a supportive, dynamic, and fun atmosphere. As campers engage in various activities, they gain crucial 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. Further, with the exploration of an array of topics, the camp offers varied learning experiences unlike those usually provided in traditional classroom settings.

Facilitated Through the Javits Grant

The inception of Camp Discover is credited to the generous Javits Grant from the US Department of Education. The aim of these grants is to develop new strategies for enhancing the ability of schools to meet the unique educational needs of gifted and talented students, particularly students with high potential from low-income backgrounds. Hence, the Center for Gifted Studies, utilizing the support offered by this initiative, aims to broaden the horizons of learners who have the potential to excel in a vast number of areas.

Final Year of Camp Discover

Although the glorious journey of Camp Discover is coming to an end with this year marking the final run, the impact it has made will continue to echo for years to come. The initiative, in its tenure, has touched the lives of many youngsters, sparking their imagination, and nourishing their intellect.

To commemorate the journey and close-out the camp, a special program for rising eight graders is slated to happen next week. With students looking forward to the enriching sessions, the final week of Camp Discover is expected to be nothing short of amazing.

Investing in the Future

Programs like Camp Discover emphasize the importance of out-of-the-box learning experiences in moulding well-rounded individuals. With opportunities to explore areas beyond their routine curriculum, students gather myriad experiences, which help them form a broad-minded perspective towards life and learning.

Owing to the successful runs of Camp Discover in the past, one can hope for more such initiatives which champion the cause of comprehensive learning and foster a conducive environment for the multi-dimensional development of students.
