Bowling Green’s John Gilbert Dives Deep into Ancient Mysteries with New Book

In the heart of Bowling Green, Kentucky, a local instructor is making waves in the literary world! Meet John Gilbert, a Computer Information Technology Instructor at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, who recently released his intriguing new book titled, “Not as Above, Not as Below: How We Got the Emerald Tablet Wrong.” This isn’t just any ordinary read; it’s a fascinating exploration that sheds light on ancient wisdom.

From Tanks to Texts

With an impressive background that includes 21 years of military service, Gilbert knows a thing or two about discipline and determination. His journey began as an M1 Tank Crewman before transitioning into the role of an Arabic Cryptologic Linguist. With this diverse experience, he developed a keen interest in languages, fueling his passion for writing since childhood.

“I have always wanted to be a writer since I was a child and have worked on it in the background my whole life,” Gilbert reflects. His love for the written word traces back to his mother, who made books easily accessible for him as a child, even before he could truly grasp their significance. She sparked a love for literature that has now transformed into a lifelong journey of exploration and expression.

Unlocking Ancient Wisdom

His latest book delves deep into the often-misunderstood Emerald Tablet, a foundational text in alchemical tradition. Gilbert brings a unique perspective by providing a translation and analysis of key philosophical fragments from 9th-century Arabic manuscripts. These documents serve as the oldest known sources of the Emerald Tablet, giving them an invaluable aspect that few modern writers can offer.

It’s no wonder his work has been recognized with the prestigious Order of the Gold Stone award! But this is just the beginning. Gilbert is currently eyeing another challenge: he has applied for a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities to translate yet another ancient manuscript titled, “The Secret of Creation and the Art of Nature.” This ambitious effort aims to further bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern understanding.

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Writers

For those who share a passion for writing, Gilbert has some heartfelt advice: “If writing calls to you, don’t hesitate to follow that passion.” His journey is proof that no matter your career or background, the urge to pen your thoughts and ideas is worth pursuing. It’s a reminder that creativity knows no boundaries!

In addition to his new book, Gilbert has authored several others, including “The Song of God: An American Interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita,” and “Pseudo-Hermetica for the 21st Century: A Modern Mystical Philosophy Using Ancient Literary Forms.” He’s also delved into Masonic literature with the book, “Temple of the Masonic Order: Wilmshurst’s ‘The Meaning of Masonry.’” Clearly, this guy is busy!

Conclusion: A Local Treasure

As Bowling Green’s very own, John Gilbert is more than just a teacher—he’s a beacon for those looking to explore the mysteries of the past through the power of writing. With each book, he opens a door to ancient manuscripts, encouraging readers to discover hidden knowledge and insights.

So, whether you’re a seasoned writer or just someone with a curious heart, take a page from Gilbert’s book—literally! Dive into the world of writing, seek out the truth in ancient texts, and who knows? You might just uncover something extraordinary!
