Bowling Green Woman Arrested following Narrow Escape from Head-on Collision with Patrol Car

Suspect Attempted to Flee; Found in Possession of Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia

A resident of Bowling Green endured an arrest in Edmonson County last Friday following her near-fatal collision with a patrol car. Ponda Bennett, aged 48, narrowly avoided striking the deputy’s car head-on while occupying the middle of a lane on Wingfield Church Road, moving in a northerly direction.

High-Speed Chase Ensued Following Infraction

Suspect Bennett reportedly increased her speed abruptly when the deputy activated emergency vehicle’s warning sirens and lights. The chase ended when Bennett lost control of her vehicle, resulting in minor property damage after hitting a mailbox. The vehicle then came to rest in a private driveway.

Bennett Showed Resistance Upon Arrest

Bennett had already vacated the crashed vehicle by the time police reached her. She was allegedly uncooperative with the instructions given by law enforcement officers and proceeded to attempt a getaway on foot. Bennett was apprehended and subsequently taken into police custody.

Discovery of Illegal Substances in Bennett’s Possession

A comprehensive search of the suspect led to the discovery of substantial quantities of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on her person, as well as inside her car. Authorities also reported that Bennett had been caught trying to dispose of yet another significant amount of methamphetamine in the back of the patrol vehicle while en route to Hart County Jail.

Multiple Charges Leveled Against Bennett

Bennett now faces a myriad of charges ranging from first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. Additional charges leveled include first- and second-degree evading or fleeing from the police, resisting arrest, second-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and reckless driving.
