Born a proud native of Barren County, Jeanette was the beloved daughter of the late Elbert and Cleo Lyons Compton. Her warm spirit touched many lives throughout her years. Jeanette held the title of a devoted wife and mother; she was married to her husband, Medford Skaggs, for a remarkable 62 years. Their bond, built on love and mutual respect, is a testament to their commitment to family.
Jeanette’s family includes her three children, Rodney Skaggs, Judy Dukes—who is married to Don—and Joe Skaggs. She was not only a loving mother but also a doting grandmother to six grandchildren, including Melinda Young, Nick Skaggs, Amber Poynter, Matt Skaggs, Brandon Dukes, and Haley Hughes. Adding to her legacy, Jeanette leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren who will undoubtedly carry on her love and kindness.
A Community Pillar
Jeanette’s life wasn’t just about family; she was an active member of the Meadowland Baptist Church, where she made many lasting friendships and connections. Her warm smile and caring nature weren’t limited to her home; she also contributed to her community as a secretary at Bristow Elementary School, later retiring from Cutler-Hammer/Eaton Corp.. Beyond her professional life, Jeanette enjoyed a variety of hobbies that showcased her nurturing spirit. Friends and family will also remember her as a whiz at doing puzzles and a talented seamstress. She had a big heart for supporting travel baseball, too, always cheering on her grandkids and their teams.

Jeanette is survived by her two sisters, Brenda Brawner and Jean Peay. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who admired her. Despite her passing, the memories she created with her loved ones will live on in their hearts. Two special caregivers also provided kindness and support, and their dedication will not be forgotten.
Final Honors
A celebration of life service for Jeanette is set for 12 noon on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on January 1. She will be laid to rest at Smiths Grove Cemetery, a final resting place that will hold her memory dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky at 5872 Scottsville Rd., Bowling Green, KY 42104, to honor Jeanette’s generous spirit and the care she received in her final days.
