In the city of Bowling Green, yesterday’s traffic trouble turned into tragic loss when a 16-year-old high school student lost his life in a vehicle-related crash. The event happened on Veterans Memorial Lane near Hickory Street.
The local police responded to the crash where the teen, identified as Talan West of Bowling Green, was hit by a southbound vehicle. From the preliminary details, it was an SUV that collided with West. The investigation unfolds that West was crossing Veterans Memorial Lane when he dropped something. When he ran back to pick it up, tragically, he was hit by the SUV. The driver of the vehicle was alone at the time of the crash and is as of yet unidentified.
Immediately after the accident, the police attempted life-saving measures on the spot, but, sadly, it was to no avail. It has been made explicit that driver impairment is not suspected in this case, and no charges have been filed so far.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Veterans Memorial Lane between Russellville Road and Tomblinson Way stayed shut for several hours.
As we mourn the loss of such a young life, friends, family, and his school are all grieving. West was a student at a local high school and would have been a junior this year, being part of the graduating class of 2026.
The accident is currently being investigated. The responsible authorities are still attempting to piece together the details of the horrific incident which led to the unfortunate loss of a young member of the community.
The abrupt loss of a member of the community, more so a young man with an entire future ahead of him, is a devastating blow. It serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of safe driving and road safety norms, whether one is a pedestrian or a driver.
