News Summary

Bowling Green residents are invited to participate in a public session on April 15, 2025, regarding the new roundabout planned at the intersection of U.S. 68 and Victoria Street. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet aims to enhance traffic flow and safety with this initiative, supported by $11 million in federal funding. The project is set to begin within two years, following community input and necessary preparations.

Bowling Green Steps into the Future with Roundabout Plans

Hey Bowling Green residents! Have you heard the buzz about the big changes coming to the intersection of U.S. 68 and Victoria Street? The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 3 is rolling out plans to construct a brand-new roundabout and they’re eager to have your input. Mark your calendars for a public session on April 15, 2025, where you can learn all about it and share your thoughts.

Join the Conversation

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the gymnasium at Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary School (located at 165 Webb Drive) will be the place to be. This is your chance to sit down with local officials and share any questions or concerns you might have about the upcoming changes. Your input is essential as part of the KYTC’s commitment to ensuring that the community is involved in decisions that affect your daily commute.

What’s in Store?

So, what’s actually going to happen at this busy intersection? Well, the plans include a shiny new roundabout at the junction of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Old Barren River Road, and Victoria Street. This is particularly exciting because it aims to create smoother traffic flow and, overall, make traveling through this area safer.

Additionally, there will be a raised median running along Veterans Memorial Boulevard, stretching 0.8 miles from the new roundabout all the way to the intersection with Clay Street. This change is designed to improve the aesthetics of the area while also providing better safety measures for pedestrians.

Safety First!

Speaking of safety, there’s even a special feature called a “refuge island” planned for intersections with West Main Avenue and Church Avenue. This will make it easier for pedestrians to cross the five-lane road, giving them a safe spot to pause if needed. It’s an essential touch that shows that the project is keenly aware of the needs of everyone in the community.

Funding and Development

Now, let’s talk funding. The city of Bowling Green successfully secured a hefty $11 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program back in March 2024. This means the plans can officially move forward! The funds have been transferred to District 3, which will be spearheading the design and eventual construction.

How Long Should We Expect?

In terms of the timeline, you won’t need to hold your breath too long. The project may kick off in about one and a half to two years, contingent upon the acquisition of land and adjustments to local utilities. Once the construction starts, you can expect it to unfold over a full construction season, ideally wrapping up in 12 months or less.

Changes to Look Out For

As with any significant overhaul, there are bound to be changes in how we navigate the roads. Some left-turn options from side streets onto Veterans Memorial Boulevard will be removed to help modify transportation patterns. The goal is to create a more efficient and safer driving environment for everyone.

We Want to Hear from You!

While large-scale projects like these can stir a range of opinions, it’s important for everyone to know that participation in this public session is crucial. You might have suggestions or feedback that could make this project even better than planned! Mark April 15th on your calendar and prepare to be a part of this conversation and help shape the future of your community.

Bowling Green is on the verge of an exciting transformation, and your voice matters. Let’s make sure it’s a change for the better!
