Bowling Green Mourns the Loss of a Beloved Community Member
Bowling Green, Kentucky, is mourning the loss of a cherished resident, Earvin Reed Kerr, who passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. He was 90 years old.
A Life Well-Lived
Reed, who was born on December 8, 1934, in the quaint town of Tompkinsville, Kentucky, lived there for over fifty years before moving to Bowling Green. His move was deliberate—to be closer to his much-loved grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.
As the proud son of the late Tommy and Ova Della (Thompson) Kerr, Reed had deep family roots in the area. He worked diligently at Key Manufacturing, where he gave 37 years of his life before retiring. A man of dedicated service, Reed made a name for himself at work, but it was his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that truly defined him.
Family Man and Community Member
Reed was not just known for his work ethic; he was also a devoted member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Bowling Green. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him through both joyous and challenging times.
In his free time, you could often find Reed indulging in his favorite pastime—fishing. A true nature lover, he enjoyed sitting on his porch soaking up the sights and sounds of the outdoors, whether it was watching squirrels scurry or listening to the melodic chirping of birds. Family gatherings often revolved around these simple pleasures, as Reed cherished the moments spent with his loved ones.
Leaving a Legacy
Reed is survived by his son Kerry Kerr and daughter-in-law Terry, who are also residents of Bowling Green. He enjoyed quality time with his two grandsons: Mitchell Kerr and his wife Hillary, as well as Miles Lamer and his wife Abby. The family continued to grow with the addition of Silas Kerr, a great-grandson who undoubtedly brought much joy and laughter into Reed’s life.
While Reed will be profoundly missed, he is survived by a tapestry of family, including several nieces and nephews and a vast circle of extended family who all hold fond memories of their time with him. His loved ones remember him fondly, and although he is preceded in death by his wife Billie Louise (Nevins) Kerr and their grandson Russell James Kerr, his legacy continues.
Honoring His Memory
Those wishing to pay their respects can attend the funeral services scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville. Prior to the service, visitation will take place at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.. Following the service, Reed will be laid to rest at Monroe County Memorial Lawn.
