Bowling Green, Ky. – In an exciting initiative that highlights the importance of technology in education, a collaboration between AT&T and Human I-T, alongside the Bowling Green Area Chamber Foundation, has resulted in 25 laptops being distributed to local high school students. This initiative particularly focused on students who have participated in the Foundation’s engaging SCK Launch program, known for preparing students for success in various fields.
The program selected five students from each participating high school in Bowling Green and Warren County, creating a wonderful opportunity for those who often face challenges in accessing technology. The laptops aim to bridge the persistent digital divide that can limit educational access for many.
One of the lucky recipients, Benjamin Rodriguez, a senior at Bowling Green High School, expressed just how grateful he was for this opportunity. “I was honestly shocked because 40 other students were competing for this Chromebook as well. So I’m very grateful that I was one of the five chosen to be here today and receive a free Chromebook,” he shared with a smile. His excitement reflects the hard work and dedication he has put into his education.
Each recipient showcased dreams and goals that these laptops will help them achieve. For instance, Angel Coronado, a senior from South Warren High School, expressed his aspirations in the STEM field. He stated, “I want to go to like the STEM field. So any new, like scientific breakthroughs or anything that could further inspire me to know things which I wouldn’t have the opportunity without a device.” This highlights not just his ambition but also how vital access to technology can be for students hoping to make a mark in competitive fields.
Another student, Kylah Anderson, from Greenwood High School, shared her own personal story. “A new computer is something that I’ve been wanting because mine’s right now isn’t the best. It’s not in the best shape. I was trying to look for a new one. So I’m actually pretty grateful that I just got this new one.” Kylah’s heartfelt words illustrate how vital a reliable device can be for students who rely on technology for their studies and future opportunities.
The event included a visit from Carlos E. Sanchez, the president of AT&T Kentucky, who presented the laptops to the eager students. Sanchez expressed his happiness in being part of such an important initiative, stating, “We’re glad to provide the resources to those that need them most.” His presence and support add weight to the effort and emphasize that community leaders are invested in improving educational resources for local students.
This laptop distribution event is a wonderful reminder of how community partnerships can bring about positive change and provide essential resources to students. As these young individuals prepare to take on their futures, having access to this technology will surely play a role in their paths to success. With bright dreams and newfound tools in their hands, the students of Bowling Green can look forward to opportunities that were once out of reach.
