Bowling Green, KY: John E. Jenkins Remembered for His Legacy of Love and Community Engagement

In a heartfelt farewell to a cherished community member, Bowling Green, KY, is coming together to honor the memory of John E. Jenkins, a man who was as dedicated to his family as he was to his love for the community. Jenkins was born on October 18, 1962, in the vibrant city of Bowling Green and was known for his contagious smile and infectious laughter that could light up any room.

A Life Well Lived

John graduated from Warren East High School and later pursued a degree in psychology from Western Kentucky University. His pursuit of knowledge didn’t stop there; he was an avid learner throughout his life with interests ranging from music to genealogy. But his commitment to service is what truly defined him—John proudly served as a Veteran of the U.S. Army, dedicated to his country and community.

A Family Man

At the young age of 25, John married his sweetheart, Sharon Jenkins. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and joy over the course of 37 years. Their family blossomed with three wonderful daughters: Heather, Whitney, and Ashley. Each daughter carried a piece of John with them, as he was not only a doting father but also a proud grandfather to eight delightful grandchildren: Annabelle, John Ryan, Adelyn, Alexandria, Nick, Aurora, Ava, and Jackson. His love for his family was deeply rooted, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was sharing stories or cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team together.

A Passion for Community

John wasn’t just known for being a devoted family man; he was also a remarkable figure within the community. He engaged with neighbors and friends alike, always with a heartwarming smile and a helping hand. Whether it was tending to his lovingly cared-for garden or sharing his extensive knowledge on various topics, John’s presence was one that brought people together.

In Loving Memory

Sadly, John E. Jenkins passed away on April 1, 2025, surrounded by those he loved dearly. He was the son of the late John Harley Jenkins and Mary Taylor and is preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Tooley, along with three brothers: David Jenkins, Jr., Jenkins, and William Taylor. He is survived by not only his beloved wife and daughters but also numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

Final Farewell

As the community prepares to say their final goodbyes, John’s funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, located at 3098 Louisville Rd., Bowling Green, KY 42101. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home earlier that day, allowing family and friends alike to gather and share memories of this remarkable man. Following the service, John will be laid to rest in the family plots, where he can rest peacefully.

In his honor, those who knew John are encouraged to remember the laughter, the love, and the joy he brought to every interaction. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
