Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society Initiates Code Red, Slashes Adoption Fees to $25

Bowling Green, Kentucky – A growing crisis has prompted the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society (BG/WCHS) to call a ‘Code Red’, to cope with seriously depleted resources due to the recent surge in pet surrenders. To address this burgeoning issue, the institution has announced a massive reduction in adoption fees, slashing them from regular rates to a mere $25.

Overpopulated Shelter Seeks Community Support

Situated in Bowling Green, the BG/WCHS has reported an alarming number of new animal surrenders this week. Over 200 new drops have escalated the crisis, pushing the shelter’s ability to its limit. “Yesterday alone we had over 30 intakes,” Marketing Manager Kate Holmes lamented, “Our shelter is so full that we have no more space.”

Joining Forces for the Cause

The BG/WCHS has partnered with the Bissell Pet Foundation to moderate the high adoption fees during this period of dire need. Holmes attributed the crisis to overpopulation caused by the lack of spaying and neutering pets. “Spaying and neutering is very important. It’s the only way that we’re gonna not have five to six dogs in a kennel at a time,” she stressed. “Spaying and neutering really saves lives.”

Adoption is a Win-Win

Adopting a pet from the shelter, according to Holmes, is a rewarding venture that benefits not only the animal but also the adopter. “They may be a little older than a puppy that you can go out and you buy. When you get a shelter dog, they are so appreciative,” she said. “They’ll love you just like any other animal. They come with their spay or neuter, they come with their shots, their first flea and tick, they’re microchipped.”

Dates to Remember

The reduced adoption fee event kicked off today and will continue until June 9th. To facilitate more adoptions, the names and pictures of the adoptable animals have been made available on the shelter’s website. Members of the public are encouraged to visit bgshelterpets.com to view the adoptable pets and adopt from the shelter to provide these animals a safe, loving home.
