Bowling Green Fire Department Accepts Applications for New Recruits

Bowling Green in search of new firefighter recruits

Located in the heart of Kentucky, the Bowling Green Fire Department has recently announced that they are now accepting applications for their upcoming class of firefighter recruits. This drive aims to initiate the department’s most extensive recruitment in recent times. The process will remain open until the end of May, with training expected to kick off shortly after.

Requirements for firefighter applicants

Aspiring firefighters wishing to serve the Bowling Green community should be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be legally eligible to work in the United States. However, the recruitment process is far from perfunctory. It involves a series of rigorous steps such as the physical fitness test, multiple interview stages, a polygraph test, and comprehensive background checks.

The physical fitness test

Among these stringent requirements, the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) is one of the standout challenges. Made up of eight events, recruits are expected to complete these tasks in rapid succession, sporting a 50 lb. weighted vest to mimic the gear of a fully-equipped firefighter. CPAT scheduling can be done through the Kentucky Fire Commission.

Support for applicants and open house events

To assist potential applicants in their journey and to answer queries, the Bowling Green Fire Department hosted an open house at Station 1 and will hold another at Station 7 on May 6. These sessions will offer recruits the opportunity to engage with the different specialties within the Fire Department, allowing them to interact with current firefighters and clarify doubts about job benefits with the Human Resources Department, among other things.

Close of applications and follow-ups

Bearing in mind the forthcoming recruitment class is slated to start around September to October, interested parties should ensure that their applications are submitted before the deadline of May 31. After which, the Fire Department will delve into a detailed review of all the applications, and successful candidates will then commence their training soon after

Community and safety first

With this recruitment drive, the Bowling Green Fire Department reaffirms its commitment to maintaining the safety of its residents and enhancing its capacity to manage and mitigate emergencies effectively. The employment opportunity carries with it a pledge to preserving the community and serving the public. It’s not just about a job; it’s about making a difference in the lives of those around you.
