City of Bowling Green hosts inaugural ‘Employment Open House’

An Emerging Employment Initiative in Bowling Green

Bowling Green, Ky – A plethora of “help wanted” or “now hiring” signs can be noticed while driving down any street in Bowling Green or the nearby areas. Bridging the gap between job seekers and potential employers, the City of Bowling Green hosted its very first “Employment Open House” this past Thursday at the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Office.

The Scope of the Employment Open House

All ten departments comprising the City of Bowling Green workforce were exhibited during the event, familiarizing attendees with the various job availabilities and benefits offered to the employees. “We are out here scouting for top candidates, not just for the fire department, but for all different departments in the city,” professed Justin Books, the Fire Chief at the Bowling Green Fire Department. The open house also extended opportunities for summer jobs and part-time work to assist individuals entering the workforce or requiring an additional job.

The Route to Recruitment

Alongside facilitating an array of careers, the City also strategized its hiring timeline to accommodate seasonal employees. “We try to plan out specific times available to them. So with parks, we began some kind of recruitment starting early in the spring, February, March,” illustrated Tiara Britt, the city’s Human Resource Manager. “By the time they graduate or leave college, we offer those jobs to them”.

What it Takes to Work for Bowling Green City

Both Britt and Brooks underscored the importance of commitment and emotional intelligence for candidates considering a career with the city. “You must be able to communicate, possess emotional intelligence, and manage yourself in special situations,” Books added. Eager candidates with the required skill set are always considered highly valuable additions to the Bowling Green workforce family.

Future Prospects of Employment

The open house presents an excellent opportunity for job seekers to join the growing city services. According to Britt, new positions are opening in various departments, including public works and dispatch services. She also pointed out that even if individuals couldn’t make it to the fair, they could visit the Bowling Green City Hall for job inquiries, and the city also posts available jobs on their website.

As Bowling Green sets a high standard in conducting this unique employment open house, it surely promises a bright and promising future for job seekers and bolsters community growth.
