News Summary

Bowling Green is witnessing significant construction updates, including a temporary street closure for essential infrastructural upgrades, the establishment of a new Catholic high school, and the development of affordable townhomes. These projects aim to enhance educational opportunities and provide stable housing options for the community, supporting sustainable development and recovery initiatives. Residents are encouraged to stay informed as these changes unfold.

Exciting Changes Ahead in Bowling Green!

Bowling Green is buzzing with activity as construction updates come pouring in! First on the agenda is a temporary street closure that many drivers will need to be aware of. Chestnut Street, located right in the heart of downtown, will be closed to motorists between E. 11th and E. 12th avenues. The closure is set for Tuesday, March 18, from around 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The reason for the closure? Bowling Green Municipal Utilities (BGMU) is making necessary upgrades by replacing a service line. During this time, drivers are being asked to exercise a little patience and find alternative routes.

Education Meets Innovation with New High School

In another exciting development for the Bowling Green community, construction is well underway for the new Catholic high school named Chesterton Academy. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first private Catholic high school in Bowling Green since St. Joseph School closed its doors in the 1960s. The local community has shown a real interest in re-establishing a Catholic educational option, making this new school a welcome addition.

Chesterton Academy will join the esteemed Chesterton School Network, which operates over 60 educational institutions worldwide. The focus will be on small class sizes, a classical curriculum, and dedicated faith formation, creating a nurturing environment for students. The academy is set to open in August 2026, initially welcoming freshmen and sophomores. While waiting for their new building to be completed, the students will temporarily utilize classroom spaces in the new administrative and youth building at St. Joseph Church.

Affordable Housing Development for the Community

14 new townhomes along Glen Lily Road. This project, powered by a generous grant exceeding $1 million from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, aims to help those transitioning from addiction recovery programs secure stable housing. Six of the townhomes are already completed, and construction is slated to wrap up on the remaining eight by October 2025.

Hope House Ministries is leading the charge on this initiative, dedicated to helping individuals recovering from substance abuse find access to affordable living options. Not only will these housing units provide shelter, but they will also offer various support services, including classes in employment readiness and financial management. The goal is to create a supportive atmosphere that assists individuals in rebuilding their lives.

New School for Future Leaders

But that’s not all! The excitement continues with the construction of the Impact Center for Leadership and Innovation, which is set to rise on the site of the former Cumberland Trace Elementary School. This innovative school is targeted at students from seventh to twelfth grade and will provide unique educational opportunities in areas such as aeronautics and digital technology.

Scheduled to open alongside Chesterton Academy in August 2026, the Impact Center aims to equip students with the tools they need to become effective leaders in a rapidly evolving world. Local organizations, including the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, are collaborating with school leaders to ensure a successful launch of this forward-thinking institution.

Stay Informed!

As Bowling Green continues to develop and expand, it’s essential for residents to stay informed about these exciting projects that promise to enhance the community. Whether you’re traversing closed streets or eager for educational advancements, there’s never been a better time to be a part of Bowling Green’s vibrant future!
