The city of Bowling Green Kentucky, is in mourning following the unfortunate death of renowned philanthropist Denny Wedge. Known for his boundless generosity and profound impact on the local community, Denny’s demise has left a significant void, prompting countless reminiscences and tributes from those whose lives he touched.

Dedicated Philanthropist to Bowling Green

Paul Wedge, known widely as Denny, died on Thursday, June 21, 2024, at the age of 85. He was a noted philanthropic figure within the Bowling Green community. One of his significant contributions was to Western Kentucky University, where the athletic advising center holds the esteemed names of Denny and his wife Carol.

The loss of this benevolent man has emphasized the breadth of his contributions and the depth of his humanity, as scores of people mourn his tragic demise. His philanthropic work has undeniably been the cornerstone of his legacy, shaping the community of Bowling Green in countless ways.

Notable Contributions to Kids on the Block

Among the many organizations that benefitted from Denny’s generosity, perhaps one of the most notable is Kids on the Block. The staff recounts Denny’s invaluable aid, primarily through the provision of vans that enabled the group to perform for children across the commonwealth. His contributions have been instrumental in supporting the group’s work and broadening its reach.

Ashley Reynolds, Director of Kids on the Block, expressed her sentiment following the news of Denny’s passing, saying, “I just hope anyone watching is just reminded that bad things happen to everyone at some point in their life… and if you can somehow create a legacy or just give something back to someone and just try to… bring something good out of something really bad.”

A Legacy Rooted in Tragedy

In 1989, Denny and Carol Wedge’s son tragically passed away. In his memory, they began their thoughtful donations to Kids on the Block, providing a new van for the organization every few years. This legacy continues to make a significant impact, enabling the group to effectively deliver its crucial messages to communities around the commonwealth.

“Without this generous donation, we wouldn’t be able to travel across the commonwealth to provide important messages to the community,” shares Regina Pedigo, a puppeteer affiliated with the group.

A Lasting Legacy

Despite the deep sense of loss that pervades the community, there is an enduring hope that Denny’s benevolent spirit will continue to inspire others to contribute to their communities and create a lasting positive impact. In Denny Wedge, Bowling Green has lost an exceptional philanthropist and a treasured member of their community – one whose legacy of kindness and generosity is set to endure for many generations to come.
