Bowling Green Bids Farewell to Beloved Community Member, James “J.B.” Belcher
It is with a heavy heart that Bowling Green mourns the passing of James “J.B.” Belcher, who left us on November 22, 2024, at the age of 85. Jim, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, spent his final moments surrounded by his loved ones at his daughter’s home, a testament to the warmth and close-knit bonds he fostered throughout his life.
A Life Rooted in Family
Born into the loving family of the late Earl and Lena Capshaw Belcher, Jim was well-known in the charming community of Warren County. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Phelps Belcher, with whom he shared countless memories before she passed away. Theirs was a love story that many admired, and together they raised a beautiful family.
Jim leaves behind two daughters, Kathie Blair (who is married to Eddie) and Margaret “Cookie” Oliver (married to Todd), who were undoubtedly the apples of his eye. He took great pride in being a grandfather to three lovely grandchildren: Katie Mae Adams, Maddie Oliver, and Hunter Oliver. These young ones brought immense joy to his life, ensuring his legacy continues for generations to come.
Building a Career and a Community
In his professional life, Jim made a name for himself as a skilled diesel mechanic at Eagle Industries. His work ethic and dedication were second to none, leaving an impact on those who had the pleasure of working with him. He wasn’t just a mechanic; he was a problem-solver, a friend, and a mentor to many. Jim’s talent with machinery was only matched by his knack for storytelling, captivating all who listened with tales from his years on the job.
Jim didn’t just work in Bowling Green; he thrived in it. As a devoted member of the Barren River Baptist Church, he found a sense of community and purpose. His faith guided him throughout his life, helping him forge deep connections with those around him. He was also proud to be a part of the Barren River Fire Department, where he contributed his time and energy to keep the community safe. Jim was always eager to lend a hand; it was just in his nature.
A Family Man at Heart
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Charlie Belcher, along with his sister Joyce Bray. Even with the loss of these cherished family members, the spirit of togetherness remains strong through Jim’s surviving siblings, Alice Jane Ruley and Mildred Holland (with Tony by her side). The family tree is filled with love, and several nieces and nephews will carry fond memories of their dear Uncle Jim.
Honoring His Memory
In line with Jim’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service but rather a memorial gathering at a later date to celebrate his life. His family encourages everyone who knew him to come together in honor of a man who meant so much to so many. The caring team at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel is entrusted with his arrangements and is providing unwavering support during this time of sorrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hospice of Southern Kentucky, located at 5872 Scottsville Rd., Bowling Green, KY 42104. This meaningful gesture will ensure that others receive the care and support Jim experienced.
Jim Belcher’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His laughter, kindness, and generous spirit will be remembered as a shining example of what it means to live life to the fullest in Bowling Green.
