It was a somber Friday evening in Bowling Green when a devastating accident on I-65 claimed the life of a local man, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Around 7 p.m., Kentucky State Police received reports of a harrowing crash near mile marker 22 on the northbound lane of I-65. Manuel Valenzuela Garcia, a 37-year-old resident of Bowling Green, was behind the wheel of his 1997 Ford F-150 when tragedy struck. As he was traveling on Cumberland Trace Road, he lost control of his vehicle.
In a shocking turn of events, Garcia’s pickup truck crashed through a fence and found itself on the busy interstate. In a heart-wrenching collision, his truck collided with a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck, which was driven by Abdiaziz Shirdon, a 35-year-old from Columbus, Ohio. The impact was severe and irreversible.
Despite the rapid response from emergency services, the Warren County Coroner’s Office pronounced Garcia dead at the scene, leaving family and friends reeling from the unexpected loss. Those who knew him are left with memories and heartaches, as the community comes together to support one another during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Shirdon was transported to The Medical Center in Bowling Green to receive treatment for his injuries. While details about his condition remain unclear, the focus is primarily on the tragic outcome for Garcia and his loved ones.
The Kentucky State Police is diligently conducting an ongoing investigation into the collision, working to gather all necessary details surrounding this unfortunate event. As the community awaits answers, it holds tightly to its memories and tributes to Garcia, who was a familiar face in the area.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from their UAS (drone) team, the Alvaton Fire Department, and Walker’s Towing & Recovery to manage the scene effectively. Local officials are urging drivers to exercise caution when traveling through the area.
As Bowling Green faces these incidents, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and being vigilant while driving. The community is encouraged to support one another, as unexpected events can shake individuals at their core. With families affected by these incidents, it’s crucial to band together and offer help, whether it be emotional support or assistance in practical ways.
As the investigation into the I-65 collision continues, Bowling Green remains hopeful, looking forward to the day when such tragic headlines will become a thing of the past. For now, the community grieves, heals, and holds on to cherished memories of those lost.
