Bowling Green Gears Up for Christmas with Local Tree Farms
As the Thanksgiving festivities fade into memory and the excitement of Black Friday comes to a close, the folks in Bowling Green, Kentucky, are ready to embrace the holiday spirit. The city’s famous live tree farms are buzzing with activity as families begin their quest for the perfect Christmas tree!
All About Lovers Lane Tree Farm
“We’re excited about this season,” beams Lisa Carter, co-owner of the popular Lovers Lane Tree Farm. This beloved local spot has been a staple in the community for nearly nine years, starting out by welcoming visitors to their charming white barn. What began as a simple place to purchase live-cut trees has blossomed into a winter wonderland where families gather over hot chocolate, share stories, and create lasting memories.
“We had a lot of families come. Santa would come every year. Photographers come with their families to take pictures,” Carter shared nostalgically. Each year, the farm has transformed into a magical experience for visitors.
A New Twist for 2024
However, this year brings a bit of a twist. Instead of the tradition of live-cut trees, Carter reveals, “We’re not able to get them and kind of decided to let it go for the year anyway.” She acknowledges that running a tree farm requires immense effort and dedication. “It’s a very demanding season,” she explains.
Luckily for eager Christmas decorators, Carter assures us that they still have some wonderful options available. “This year we have White Pine and Norway Spruce trees from a reliable grower in Dunlap, Tennessee.” The White Pines are known for their rapid growth, reaching up to an impressive 30 feet tall, while the Norway Spruces may take a bit longer but are equally stunning with their graceful branches.
Caring for Your Live Christmas Tree
If you’re planning to bring home a live tree this year, Carter has some tips to ensure it stays vibrant and festive all season long. “The best thing you can do is add ice to it every two or three days,” she suggests. This helps keep the tree’s bulbs moist, ensuring it stays alive, happy, and healthy. After the holidays, she recommends planting your tree in the ground for it to thrive beautifully post-Christmas.
For those wondering how to care for their live tree, Carter shares, “They’re very easy and they’re very resilient, especially these two varieties. They don’t like it too hot.” She reminds everyone that while the trees are currently dormant for the colder seasons, being indoors for too long might awaken them prematurely, which could be harmful when they’re finally placed back outside.
Custom Wreaths for the Holidays
But that’s not all! Lovers Lane Tree Farm continues to create beautiful custom-made fresh wreaths that have become a holiday favorite. “We’ve been making wreaths for eight years and putting bows on them and selling them,” Carter proudly states.
The wreaths are made from a variety of greenery including White Pine, Princess Pines, Spruce, and Noble Fir. What makes them extra special is the added touches. “We cut things off the farm to make them unique. We also add pine cones, red berries, or any decorative picks you want.” Prices for these charming creations start at $50 for an 18-inch wreath, while larger options can go up to $130.
Pricing and Hours
Looking to snag one of the gorgeous trees? The White Pine trees are priced at $150, while the Norway Spruce trees come in at $200. The Lovers Lane Tree Farm is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is ready to help spread cheer this holiday season!
