Bowling Green Welcomes Back the Trees of Christmas Event!

Bowling Green is bustling with excitement as the beloved Trees of Christmas event returns for its 45th year! Hosted by the fantastic Eloise B. Houchens Center, this delightful tradition is all about bringing the community together to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. With a rich history and a commitment to spreading joy, the Houchens Center has become a cherished landmark in the heart of the city.

A Heartwarming Tradition

For more than four decades, the Trees of Christmas event has become a staple in the Bowling Green holiday calendar. This year, visitors can expect a whopping 26 beautifully decorated trees each one adorned by local organizations and civic groups, with some talented individuals adding their own creative touch. Caroline Flora, the President of the center, passionately shared, “This is something we do for the community every year and it brings a lot of enjoyment. People bring their kids and take pictures in front of the trees. We’ve been doing this a long time and we just love for people to come out and look at the trees.”

A Dash of Friendly Competition

The charm of the Trees of Christmas doesn’t stop at just admiring the decorations. There’s an added twist to this year’s festivities with a little friendly competition! Beneath each tree, visitors will find jars where they can drop donations to vote for their favorite tree. The tree that gathers the most donations will be crowned the winner, and all proceeds will benefit the Houchens Center. It’s a win-win situation! One of the participating organizations, The Salvation Army, is also encouraging visitors to bring in winter apparel like coats, hats, gloves, and scarves to help those in need.

Experience the Splendor

As you step inside the historic Houchens Center, which has stood the test of time since its construction in 1904, you’ll be awestruck by its elegance and charm. Flora hinted at the magical ambiance, especially during the Open House, saying, “I love it when kids come in on Open House and just, you know, their little eyes look at all the ornaments and the trees … I just love all the Christmas holiday events.” It’s a heartwarming sight that you won’t want to miss!

New Features This Year

This year, the festive spirit is taking on an even more enchanting feel with live piano and violin music filling the air, creating a delightful atmosphere for all ages. Plus, there’s an exciting new addition! The Houchens Center will be featured on the Bowling Green Woman’s Christmas Home Tour on December 8, showcasing its stunning decorations and warm holiday cheer.
