In a disheartening display of sport, yesterday the Bowling Green Bootleggers lost 9-3 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Bowling Green’s very own ballpark. From the outset, it was a grueling game for the Bootleggers (26-22) with the Blue Rocks (22-24) managing to limit them to just two hits. Although Yoniel Curet, the Bootleggers pitcher, managed to fan a commendable eight hitters, it was insufficient in overcoming the might of the Blue Rocks.
Despite initial promise, the Bootleggers failed to maintain their lead throughout the game. They managed to register the first runs of the match in the third inning against Blue Rocks starter, Cade Cavalli. Jhon Diaz was hit by a pitch which led to Ryan Spikes and Brayden Taylor accumulating back-to-back walks to load the bases. These events culminated in Diaz scoring from third due to a wild pitch by Cavalli, thus making the score 1-0.
Xavier Isaac managed to drive in Spikes on a sacrifice fly in the following moments, doubling the lead to 2-0. However, these early victories were soon overshadowed by the relentless prowess of the Wilmington team.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks made a triumphant comeback in the following innings against Bowling Green’s starter, Yoniel Curet. The fourth inning saw Daylen Lile score a solo homer while Phillip Glasser fired a two-run homer in the fifth inning, thus changing the game’s momentum in favor of the Blue Rocks at 3-2.
The Blue Rocks then secured their victory by amassing an impressive six runs in the sixth frame. Despite Brock Jones from the Bootleggers scoring on an RBI double during the sixth, the Blue Rocks managed to maintain their lead. The score sat at 9-3, underlining the peaceful evening as a dispiriting loss for the Bowling Green Bootleggers.
Wander Arias (2-0) successfully netted the win with a performance that saw just one walk and one strike out over 2.1 scoreless innings. On the other hand, Yoniel Curet (2-6) who let up eight runs (six earned) on five hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts over 5.1 frames, adjudged the loss.
The Bowling Green Bootleggers now host the Wilmington Blue Rocks once again in game four of a six-game series this Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT, and we are hopeful for a shift in the action and a comeback by the Bootleggers.
