On July 29th, Bowling Green Parks and Recreation (BGPR) is teaming up with the Warren County Public Library (WCPL) to host the much-anticipated Back to School Luau and STEAM Night at the Russel Sims Aquatic Center. A spokesperson for the organization, Cameron Levis, gave us a bit of insight on what to expect.
“So basically it’s a end-of-summer bash aiming to get youngsters and their folks to unwind before the school year, while simultaneously getting their creative juices flowing with meticulously designed activities on the deck of the pool, emphasizing the realms of STEAM,” said Levis.
For those unaware, STEAM is an acronym symbolizing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This event’s purpose is to gear the kids up for school with several engaging activities spread around the pool deck that incorporate these five categories. Highlights include a spectacular cannonball competition, an exciting boat building task, plus much more!
“We might have a tie-dye gig over on the pool deck. The library is planning to introduce their Dino bone set for kids to toy with, assemble, and explore,” Levis explained. “We love to incorporate some entertaining elements with the features here, like the zero-depth area. So, expect a relay race involving the dumping buckets, or for a dash of added thrill, the speedy rubber ducks sliding down the slides.”
The event is free to the public, but they encourage attendees to bring school supplies as donations. Cameron Levis discusses this aspect, saying, “We want this to also be a chance for us to contribute to our local community. So, we’re urging them to bring any and all school supplies that youngsters in our community may require but may have a hard time obtaining.”
Cameron added that all collected supplies would be forwarded to local schools or affiliated organizations. “Post event, we’ll make sure these supplies reach the right people, or more specifically, the children who need them the most,” he said.
The event will take place on July 29th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. So get your swimsuits ready and let’s make the end of this summer a memorable one, brimming with fun-filled educational activities. We hope to see families from all over Bowling Green community at the Russell Sims Aquatic Center, enjoying every moment.
