As the holiday season approaches, many of us are thinking about gifts, food, and family gatherings. But let’s take a moment to consider a different kind of gift—one that doesn’t come wrapped with a bow but is invaluable to those in need. Blood Assurance is hosting a wonderful opportunity for you to give back and truly make a difference this holiday season!
On Monday, Dec. 23, Blood Assurance will be setting up shop in the Greenwood Mall parking lot, right in front of JCPenney. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., you have the chance to roll up your sleeves and donate blood. This is a fantastic way to spread some holiday cheer by helping those who find themselves in urgent need during this time of year.
Many might not realize how crucial blood donations are, especially during the holidays when the demand often spikes. Media relations coordinator, Brooke Katz, emphasizes just how vital specific blood types are. “We really need O-Negative blood, which is known as the universal blood type. It’s especially critical during emergencies when a patient’s blood type isn’t known. Hospitals love to have it readily available!”
But that’s not all! Blood Assurance is also looking for AB-Plasma, which plays a key role in transfusions, and platelet donors, whose donations support cancer patients who rely on these for treatment. So, if you happen to fall into any of these categories, your participation could mean the world to someone fighting for their life.
Are you wondering what’s involved in the donation process? Well, it’s easier than you might think! Donating blood typically takes just 30 to 45 minutes of your time. It’s a painless procedure, and before you know it, you’ll be helping to save lives. Plus, you’ll have a great story to share at holiday gatherings, and who knows—you could inspire friends and family to join in!
If you’re planning to donate, here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:
Once you arrive at the blood drive, you’ll go through a quick health screening to ensure you’re eligible to donate. It’s a simple process and before you know it, you’ll be contributing to a cause that can impact lives right in your community.
Even if you can’t make it on Dec. 23, consider spreading the word! Share the information with friends, family, and your colleagues. Let’s come together as a community to support those in need this holiday season. Remember, this isn’t just about blood; it’s about saving lives and showing compassion during a time when everyone could use a little extra warmth and kindness.
