BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The city of Bowling Green recently hosted its 8th annual Reception for New Americans at the Sloan Convention Center, marking a significant event for many individuals from around the globe. The reception celebrated those who have officially obtained their citizenship in the United States, with representatives from 12 different countries in attendance.
As hundreds gathered to recognize this important milestone, city officials congratulated the new citizens on their achievement. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with excitement and a sense of accomplishment as individuals and families took a giant step towards starting their new lives in the United States.
Among the attendees was Leyda Becker, the city’s international committee liaison, who expressed her heartfelt joy for the new citizens. “Every time that I hear about someone that has come from a very far-reaching corner of the world, like Madagascar, that really excites me to know that they have found a home in Bowling Green, Kentucky,” she remarked. Becker further added that it is “amazing” to have such a welcoming community, a sentiment that resonated with many at the event.
The reception not only recognized the new citizens but also provided valuable resources to assist them as they begin their journey in America. Representatives from various organizations, including the Bowling Green Police Department and the Daughters of the American Revolution, were present to offer their support. This diverse group aimed to help the new citizens feel more connected and informed as they navigate their new lives.
This year’s event highlighted the rich diversity that Bowling Green has to offer. New citizens hailed from vastly different backgrounds and cultures, showcasing the city’s commitment to embracing individuals from all walks of life. As Becker noted, this reception is not only about granting citizenship but also about fostering a sense of community and belonging.
The day concluded on a celebratory note, with many sharing personal stories and aspirations for their futures in the United States. Each new citizen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to build their lives in a place that, as Becker pointed out, offers a warm and safe environment for everyone.
With this event, Bowling Green reaffirmed its status as a welcoming city, committed to providing support to those who seek to call it home. Congratulations to all the newest citizens of the United States of America!
