Bowling Green Fire Department Applies for $3.8 Million Grant
Boosting Staffing and Efficiency
In a proactive move geared towards improved service provision, the Bowling Green Fire Department has sought permission to secure additional funding. As it currently stands, fire stations across Bowling Green function with teams of three. However, they may soon be able to expand their teams by adding a fourth member. The Bowling Green City Commissioner sanctioned the Fire Department’s application for a $3.8 million grant during a recent meeting.
“This grant doesn’t just add numbers to the station, it has also proven that the firefighters are more efficient with four crew members,” cited Chief Justin Brooks.
In expounding on the benefits of a four-member crew, Brooks shared, “A crew of four arrived at the last circle and did a very special thing, not only were they able to extinguish the fire, but they were able to perform a primary search of that apartment and they were able to rescue two victims who are still alive today.”
Third Attempt at Securing Grant
This marks the third time the Bowling Green Fire Department has sought this grant. An approval would not only boost the department’s staffing but also enhance the quality of service delivery within the Bowling Green city limits while helping maintain the BGFD standard.
Potentially Influencing Future Staffing Models
The outcome of this grant application could potentially influence future staffing models within the fire service industry. Proving that a four-member crew yields better results in terms of increased efficiency and successful rescues may encourage other fire departments to revisit their staffing norms.
Seeking Community Support
The Bowling Green Fire Department is hopeful that the community will rally behind their cause by demonstrating their support for the grant application. More than just the numbers, the additional funding will significantly amplify the department’s capacity to safeguard the community better.
Next Steps
The grant application is currently in the process and a final decision is yet to be made. Meanwhile, the Bowling Green Fire Department continues to diligently serve the community with the resources at its disposal.
