Bowling Green Students Receive Free Chromebooks to Enhance Learning

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A recent event aimed at supporting local high school students took place in Bowling Green, where 25 laptops were distributed to students from various high schools in the area. This initiative was a collaborative effort between AT&T and Human I-T, in partnership with the Bowling Green Area Chamber Foundation. The organization chose five students from each participating school who had successfully completed the Foundation’s SCK Launch program.

Bridging the Digital Divide

The distribution of laptops plays a crucial role in addressing the digital divide that exists among students. More often than not, access to technology is a significant barrier to effective education and future opportunities. By providing Chromebooks to these students, the initiative aims to foster better educational outcomes and prepare them for a tech-centric future.

Student Reactions

Many students expressed their surprise and gratitude upon receiving the laptops. Benjamin Rodriguez, a senior at Bowling Green High School, shared his feelings: “I was honestly shocked because 40 other students were competing for this Chromebook as well. So I’m very grateful that I was one of the five chosen to be here today and receive a free Chromebook.” His excitement was evident as he spoke about the opportunities ahead.

Another student, Angel Coronado, who is also a senior but from South Warren High School, discussed his future aspirations in the STEM field. He said, “I want to go to like the STEM field. So any new, like scientific breakthroughs or anything that could like further inspire me to like, know things which I wouldn’t have the opportunity without a device.” His comment highlights the importance of technology in pursuing career goals in today’s world.

Kylah Anderson, a senior at Greenwood High School, expressed her gratitude as well. She shared, “A new computer is something that I’ve been wanting because mine’s right now isn’t the best. It’s not in the best shape. I was trying to look for a new one. So I’m actually pretty grateful that I just got this new one.” Her joy reflects the practicality and necessity of having functional technology for academic pursuits.

Community Support

The presence of Carlos E. Sanchez, the president of AT&T Kentucky, added significance to the event. He emphasized the importance of providing resources to those in need, stating that AT&T is pleased to support initiatives that help students succeed. Sanchez’s involvement shows a commitment from the corporate sector to make a difference in the lives of young people in Bowling Green.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the joint effort between AT&T, Human I-T, and the Bowling Green Area Chamber Foundation illustrates the positive impact that community organizations and businesses can have on student success. Providing students with the tools they need is crucial to ensuring a brighter future. These 25 laptops represent not just devices, but also the promise of opportunities and potential for the young men and women of Bowling Green.
