Bowling Green is all set to host a fun-filled event – the Back to School Luau & STEAM Night. This amazing event is a partnership between Bowling Green Parks and Recreation (BGPR) and the Warren County Public Library (WCPL). This end-of-summer bash, taking place at the Russell Sims Aquatics Center, is a great way to get young minds primed and ready for the new school year.
Aside from all the fun, the event has a cause – to get children excited about STEAM fields. Cameron Levis, Recreation Division Manager at BGPR, explained, “STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. We’ve got a bunch of fun activities set up that are all about STEAM. It’s all about making learning fun and fascinating!”
The organizers are planning various innovative activities for the night. Children can look forward to a cannonball competition, boat building activities, and a lot more. “We’ll be having a tie-dye station right on the pool deck – just for kicks. Oh and the library will be bringing in their Dino bones for the kiddos to reconstruct! Sounds pretty cool, right?” adds Cameron with a charming grin.
One of the planned exciting activities will involve the zero-depth area of the pool. The focus will be on fun with learning as budding young minds race rubber ducks down the slide to see how fast they can go and arrange relays with buckets.
The event is not just about having a good time, it’s also about giving back to the community. The entry to the event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies as donations. These supplies will be distributed to local schools and organizations, helping those in need to acquire essential school items.
Cameron expressed his hope for a well-attended event. “We want the community to come out, enjoy the night, and at the same time, we want to seize this opportunity to help the less fortunate kids in our community.” he added.
The Back to School Luau & STEAM Night will take place on July 29th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. So, mark your calendars and grab your swimsuits – it’s time for a meaningful end-of-summer celebration!
Get ready to dive into a pool of fun and learning at this back-to-school event because as they say – all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
