In Laurel County, Kentucky, a man from Bowling Green found himself in some hot water after his car was pulled over and searched on Thursday morning. Dennis Addison, 47, was driving on Hal Rogers Parkway when he was stopped at a traffic safety checkpoint.
The officers didn’t just wave him through, but instead decided to investigate his vehicle. During the course of the search, K-9 Foxx, one of the force’s trusty police dogs, indicated he sniffed out something suspicious. That something turned out to be hydrocodone, a powerful and potentially addictive prescription painkiller.
Addison’s troubles didn’t stop at illegal drug possession, though. He was also found to be operating his vehicle with an expired operator’s license. In addition, the hard-hitting painkillers were not stored in a proper container, which is a clear violation in the state of Kentucky. This violation was reportedly Addison’s first.
It wasn’t long before the Bowling Green man found himself facing multiple charges, including driving with an expired license; not keeping his prescription controlled substances in a proper container, and drug possession. Specifically, he was charged with possession of a controlled substance – being the first-degree offense of hydrocodone possession.
Following his arrest, the judiciary wheel began turning and Addison was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
As we know, drug offenses like this are no small matter. They not only risk destroying the lives of those who use them but also contribute to the very serious issue of drug addiction throughout our communities nationally.
This story is a stark reminder that illegal drugs, and the misuse of prescription ones, are not accepted in Kentucky or elsewhere.
