Arrest Made in Connection to Vandalism at Historic Railpark

Bowling Green Historical Site Defaced, Repair Costs Expected to be Over $1,000

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local resident, Terry Huddleston (59), was apprehended by the Bowling Green Police Department (BGPD) on charges related to vandalism at the city’s Historic Railpark on Friday. Authorities were alerted to a person behaving suspiciously at the site, leading to Huddleston’s subsequent arrest.

Disturbing Discovery at Historic Railpark

Upon responding to reports of a suspicious person, BGPD Officer Andrew Kilbourne described finding the letter “H” deeply engraved into the paint of a historic train situated within the park. The alleged act of vandalism compromises the integrity of the exhibit. Restoring the vintage train’s original look can be complex and highly costly. Consequently, law enforcement viewed this act as not a mere prank but a serious crime, rightfully so given the significance of this park which is deeply entrenched in the area’s historical narrative.

From Suspicious Activity to Arrest

As stated by Officer Kilbourne, the accused, Terry Huddleston, did not resist his arrest and admitted to the vandalism. He was promptly taken into custody and transported to the Warren County Detention Center. Following the arrest, an assessment was conducted to evaluate the cost of the damages. Authorities estimated that the repairs would exceed $1,000, underscoring the severity of the act and its subsequent penalties.

If convicted, Huddleston faces a charge of first-degree criminal mischief, a serious offense that demonstrates a significant disregard for property, especially considering the historic importance of the damaged train. Discussions will be needed to address how funds will be allocated to ensure the swift restoration of the exhibit to its former glory.

Huddleston remains in custody on a $1,000 cash bond pending a court appearance.
