The much-awaited Russell Sims Aquatic Center situated in Bowling Green officially opened its doors on Saturday, May 25th. Eager locals flocked to the refreshing oasis to commemorate the unveiling of the renovated center and enjoy the enthusing sunshine.
The center, whose inception took place back in 2000, has acted as a dynamic source of recreation for community members for over two decades. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances led to the abrupt closing of the water park last year after a leak was discovered in the pool facility.
Cameron Levis, the BGPR (Bowling Green Parks and Recreation) Recreational Division Manager, conveyed his elation over the reopening of the cherished summer destination. In Levis’s words, the summer season indeed marks their “time to shine.”
Levis gushed, “It’s always an exciting time to welcome our community back to the water park… we love to help our community make memories in the park that last a lifetime. That’s our goal.”
As the Russell Sims Aquatic Center enters its 25th season, the Bowling Green community can anticipate a redefined experience. The team has executed a rebranding of the center, introducing new themes to offer an uplifting and vibrant atmosphere.
According to Levis, the center is poised to host a multitude of unique events throughout the summer, some of which include a “Journey to Neverland Night, Christmas in July, STEAM Night, and a back-to-school luau in collaboration with the Warren County Public Library.”
The official debut of the renovated facility witnessed an overwhelming turn up with families eager to reignite their summer traditions at the park. One seasonal visitor, Rylan Carver, expressed his excitement in resuming the tradition his family holds dear.
He said, “My family gets season passes every year. We’ve been coming here for the past six years… we come here all the time.” He added, “It’s actually a tradition for us, we love this place.”
In addition to leisure activities, the Russell Sims Aquatic Center is also set to offer swimming lessons with registration commencing on Tuesday, May 28. The lessons extend a fantastic opportunity for community members to hone their swimming skills in a fun and engaging environment. All in all, the reopening of the Russell Sims Aquatic Center marks an exciting milestone for the Bowling Green community. Not only does it offer a thrilling summer retreat, but it also provides a space for families to spend quality time together, creating lasting memories.
